Working with Commonsense Epos Ltd leading sandwich, soup and coffee shop, EAT, has pioneered the way its customers pay for goods. It has introduced the first fully integrated, Contactless payment system in the UK – a solution that will enable their customers to pay quickly for goods (in less than half a second) with a simple wave of a contactless enabled credit or debit card. Contactless is currently being introduced by UK banks to provide consumers with a fast and efficient way of paying for low value goods, without the need for a PIN code or signature. Revolutionising the way consumers interact with retailers, it will enable goods of £10 or under to be purchased using Contactless “touch ‘n’ go” credit or debit cards.
For EAT, Contactless offers the ideal method of speeding up service, reducing queues and increasing footfall in its 90 busy city centre outlets. With 350,000 customers per week and an average transaction value of less than £5, EAT is ideally positioned to benefit from the increased speed of service expected to result from the launch of Contactless.
Commonsense Epos Ltd , working with Commidea and Barclay Merchant Services, installed the contactless solution at EAT’s Moorgate branch. Following this, a further 24 stores across London will have similar solutions installed over the coming weeks.
It is anticipated that by the end of 2011, 70% of debit cards and 45% of credit cards are expected to be Contactless-enabled, in the UK.
